The First Annual Moody Picnic
Operating on the premise that families of bipolar individuals frequently suffer from a lack of social events, Lake Pediatrics and Dr. E. Thomas Carlson are trying to organize a regional Bipolar Family and Friends Picnic to be held at Hickory Point State Park in Tavares Florida on Sunday, October 15, 2006 from 1 to 5 pm.
We are asking interested families to volunteer to contribute time, talent and advice in order to make this happen. You do not need to have any previous relationship with Dr. Carlson or Lake Pediatrics in order to be involved with this website or the picnic. Those of us privileged enough to be related to or to know a creative person with mood instability, or to actually be a moody individual are invited. Bring the grandparents, aunts, uncles, and children to Hickory Point Park. There will be fun for all ages. We will also attempt to share information about living with a mood disorder.
Bring a good attitude. Food and games provided. There will be a Chili Cook Off. Bring two to four quarts to be judged. Rate your own Chili as: for the kids, mild, medium hot or extreme. We will also have an art and photography show - no R or X rated pictures please. This is to be a family picnic. Pre registration is necessary for the Chili cook off and the art show.
Other likely events planned are tugs of war, possibly with a mud finish; pole throw (only idiots would pole vault); pie eating contest (maybe two sections; with and without beard;)
talent show, and perhaps other contests Voluntary time out space will be
provided. Poster presentations and perhaps lectures will feature up to date information on medical research and on and off label use of medications, and the possible interaction between seasonal variations, nutrition and mood disorders. Information and opinions collected on the website will also be on display.
No Alcohol, recreational drugs, firearms, or other weapons at the picnic please.
You need not be shy about last minute good decisions to attend.
We would also like to present a Backwoods Energy Fair which would include (posters of) home rigged solar water heaters, solar air conditioners, waste heat (A/C) pool and hot water heaters, and renewable energy electricity generators ranging from pedal power to1 Kw or more.
